Volkswagen do Brasil manufactured 297,773 Squarebacks (called the "Variant" throughout markets in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia) from 1969-1982. The car had an improved suspension system and a 1584ccm engine that produced 54 BHP (top speed of 84 MPH).
