Finally, our BLACK or GREY ABS Plastic Slider panel with a hair cell texture for the 1980 – 1984 VW VANAGONs are ready for sale! These panels (like our ABS rear hatch, doors and rear ¼’s and other VANAGON panels) have been described as “indestructible & fit perfectly”!
These are engineered to prevent the get wet, warp up, hang on rear door latch pin and scratch up the outside paint.
These could be the last slider door panel your VANAGON will ever need again!
No more having to replace the press hard board slider panel from water damage since the windows / slider seal leaks that let in water or from the moisture in the air does it too.
The ABS plastic material will stay black even if you bang and gouge it unlike the vinyl covered panels. Comes with a scrap piece of the ABS material for you to test out plastic wax protectant, test paint them with Krylon Fusion paint too.
These can be painted with Krylon Fusion plastics can spray paint:
First use the included test ABS scrap piece to practice on it.
Clean the ABS with rubbing alcohol to remove any mold releases and hand grease
Let them to fully dry (if you want the best paint job, then take them to a body shop for them to Bull Dog primer and paint them with flex additive paints)
Then spray them with Krylon Fusion plastic spray paint
Let them full dry before handling & installing them…..
Even the opening crank and door latch plastic pieces can be painted too!
The ABS plastic panels can also be upholstery too by sanding the surface with 36 grit sand paper, spray contact cement on both ABS panel & material, let it tack up and apply them together just like normal upholstery process. Maybe even your original door covers too?
