Randys Buggy Shop - Comfort TX   Price: $1
Attention> All of San Antonio and Austin..
Randys Buggy Shop is located 35miles NW of San Antonio near Comfort TX..

I am a fully Factory Trained VW mechanic from the early 70's, also a self-taught machinist. Ive been self-employed since 1977 and have only recently put my shop back together on my country property near Comfort, Tx. I can do most machine shop services, and all engine repairs on Bugs, Buses, Buggies, and water cooled VW's too.
Also ball joints, king and link pin rebuilding, SuperBeetle front struts, and much more. Bring your own parts welcome.

The only projects that I choose to work on are those where the owner wants
1st class technical and mechanical repairs.. I strive to rebuild engines to a point of perfection using specific machine shop operations and procedures and precise assembly techniques- and of course quality replacement parts (all based on the customers budget),
service and replace transmissions/drive axles and rear end running gear, shocks and complete braking systems repairs- updating to disc brakes in some cases, ball joints, tie rods, steering gear boxes and other chassis critical front-end and rear-end repairs.

My favorite VW's to work on are the 69' and later Bugs (more specifically 71' thru 79'- Std Bug or Super Beetles), the 68' and later Buses, Campers and Westfalias- and all the 72' thur 79' Buses with the Type 4 engines..

I do not work Dune Buggy's or lowered VW's.. I will build an engine for you- so you can install it- most of the time Dune Buggy's have chopped-up and bastardized to a point of no return..
I like building stock 1600cc Dual Port Engines up to and including the 1776cc engine..
FYI> the stock original VW engine block/case can not dependability handle anything larger than a 1776cc displacement- anything bigger results in a very very short lived engine. After 40+ years of experience- this is info you can take to the bank !!

I enjoy helping people with their projects, giving advise and making recommendations. My shop is a "hobby shop" so educating people is what I do. You can come for a visit and I will spend an hour showing you how all the pieces come together.

So for those of you who need air-cooled VW Service
give me call anytime @ 210 209 3597. I am a very low-volume/one-man shop
and I am over 62yrs old, so don't expect same day service (but that can happen).
I also buy, sell and trade VW's.. So if you have something for sale gimme a call.
I am about 50 miles NW of downtown San Antonio..
Thanks for looking, Randall Brown... 210 209 3597 cell

New Testimonial
By Jeff Fant of Corpus Christi, Texas (Feb 2013)
“I recently bought a '65 Beetle and discovered a cross-threaded spark plug in number 4 cylinder. I decided to take my engine to Randy Brown in Comfort Texas for a time-sert repair since that was beyond my ability. When Mr. Brown examined my engine he discovered that both heads had been extensively welded inside and out and also found that my rocker assemblies needed replacement. It only took Randy a few days to repair my engine using genuine VW parts which he thankfully had in his shop. The quality of the job Randy did for me was excellent and the cost of the parts was, quite simply, a bargain. The labor rate Mr. Brown charges is shockingly low. I think you would be hard pressed to find somebody to even mow your yard for what Mr. Brown charges. Randy is retired so he probably does not need to work but you can tell that he offers his services because he really enjoys what he does – exactly the kind of person I want working on my car. He has a fully-equipped machine shop with a lift, a lot with a bunch of cars, shelves of parts and a many years of experience working on air-cooled VWs – plus he is a damn nice person. I would not hesitate to use Randy again and recommend him to anyone needing air-cooled work.”

Testimonial Sept 2012
Randy:
I would like to thank you for the job you did rebuilding our engine, etc. on our 1972 Volkswagen Westy. You really showed a passion for working on Volkswagens and you treated our vehicle as
if it were your own. I especially appreciate the way you explained everything either through e-mail or in person when we picked up the vehicle; easy to understand and honest. You may be
a little slow, but very efficient. Slow is how most good things work.
Thanks again for the great job.

Testimonial by one of my customers in San Antonio- Feb 2012
Dear Randy,
Well, where do start. From day one when I brought you my engine, I knew I would be taken care of. Your professionalism and attention to detail is something to be proud of. As an aircraft mechanic, I know the importance of those two words all to well. I could not be happier with the end result of my shinny new 1641cc VW engine. I have learned so much beginning to end on this project that it is actually hard to remember every detail. However, I know all I have to do is pick up the phone if I have any questions, and you will have an easy to understand answer for me. Since I got into the small VW community, I have had nothing but headaches. As you know, there are way to many opinions out there and to little real mechanical knowledge of the engines ( and of course, a lot of "flaky" people). What you do is a dying art, and for you to teach me that art is something you never find in a lot of mechanics. After all, those are our skills which we use to make our money. Your honesty goes a long way with me. I know my new engine will bring me years of entertainment and reliability, and I will be recommending you to anyone that loves VW like we do. I really appreciate you being straight forward, your hard work, and fair prices. I look forward to working with you in the future.

Very satisfied customer,
Clark Deady
FAA Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic

Another Testimonial- March 2012
"When I took my car to Randy the rear end was sagging and rattling, the engine wouldn't stay started and the fuel system was full of rust. Randy rebuilt the carburetor, fixed up the fuel system, tore down and rebuilt most of the rear-end suspension and replaced the gas tank in less time than it would have taken me to diagnose the problems. As a bonus, Randy periodically sent detailed photos of the entire process so I was always up-to-date on the progress and condition of the vehicle. The work was beautifully done, my car runs like new, and the price was very fair. Randy gets an A+ on communication, honesty, competency and timeliness." Luke Meier, Spring Branch, Tx

April 2012> I had towed my 71 Super out to Randy over one weekend and dropped it off for him to diagnose some problems for me. Within a day he had gotten back to me and let me know what needed to be done, what parts were needed, the approximate costs and time it would take to complete. Once we agreed on the work that needed to be done, Randy ordered the parts and got to work right away on my bug. He sent me emails and pictures of the progress which I was very thankful for. Once everything had been completed, he gave me more advice on what future projects may need to be done but made sure that what he had currently worked on was done up to his standards. When I got back to his place to pay and pick up my vehicle, he had it up on the lift so he could show me all that he had done and replaced. He explained to me in great detail all that went in to the repairs and what I can do to make sure the bug continues to run as smooth as possible. He explained that I would need a engine rebuild sometime done the line and I would not take it to anyone else except Randy again. Thanks Randy for all your help.
