1977 Survivor, 99% Original! 41,000 Total Miles!   Price: 19,500.00
1977 VOLKSWAGEN VAN FOR SALE: Unbelievable original survivor! NO RUST IN FLOORS! White paint is thinning a bit on the topside. Blue is in great shape. I may go ahead and paint the top although I don’t really want to do that so a buyer can see exactly what he is getting in terms of this being a nearly perfect original example. You can paint a classic 50 times but it is only original once! Having owned and driven two of these in the seventies and eighties, I can tell you Ive never driven one like this! The major difference, of course, is the rear sway bar and additional 2.0 F.I horsepower. You don’t get blown around on the road anymore with the rear sway bar installed. It took me eight years to find a VW like this with factory/dealer installed air conditioning. I’ve never seen another one with this original air conditioning unit. I changed the piston type A/C compressor over to a custom built Sanden ($1000.00 for this custom build rotary compressor). It requires only 4.5 horsepower rather than the 12+ horsepower of the older original York piston type. Also makes for a lot of difference in performance. I have replaced both condensing units (They are both new, aftermarket), underside, as well as the fans. All other A/C components, hoses, etc are new. The original style luggage rack, accessible by standing in the sliding doorway, will carry about anything you need to carry. Seats, carpets are really in great shape. The white seats make a lot of difference in the summer heat. The A/C has both front and rear outlets. The former owner said it had lived in central Florida all its life, in a garage, and was seldom if ever in the rain. That is an area not near the coast so it wasn’t exposed to salt water spray. Original radio. Chrome extension on the shifter, and fog lamps which make a lot of difference at night. New headlamps with bars not yet installed are included. Finding an original pair of VW mud flaps is a frustrating challenge at best these days because VW sued the aftermarket manufacturers and there are no more. The owner was a factory Peterbuilt mechanic and he would take the engine out and play with it from time to time, add new bushings and seals, etc. You can literally eat off the engine it is so clean! Excellent factory chrome bumpers, front and rear. Wish I could keep it but I have a cabin to build and need the funds. The only thing I know of at all is that most people don’t know the VW factory recommends 6 or 8 ply tires and this one, as well as most, has regular passenger tires. This is also a huge difference in handling and load carrying capabilities. For the long run, I would change these tires out.
You can buy this VW van and drive it from now on with just a little TLC and the values are going up very rapidly. PS: I didn’t realize it was a chick magnet! One long trip of 600+ miles was a blast and no problems whatsoever. Fuel economy is good too. You can drive it, sleep in it, live in it, haul in it and it is a total blast to own! $19,500.00 FIRM. 404-313-3022. [email protected] Southeast of Atlanta, GA.
