For Sale: 4x new .060” thick Polycarbonate (Lexan was GE’s Polycarbonate) solid windows for Type 181 / VW Thing side curtains.

These attach to the stock OEM black vinyl which is all around the enclosed metal frames with all Alum black 1/8” Pop rivets & back up plates (against the vinyl on the inside of your frames)!
Replace your old Vinyl side curtains (stock vinyl yellows easily and cuts with a pocket knife so anyone can get into your car) and don’t kill the bank account doing so!
With these PC windows to help prevent scratches (everything scratches…even glass) and to keep them looking their best, use plastic wax / polish like what I recommend is “210” plus spray plastics wax which is anti static (wipe any plastics, it charges up and dirt is attracted back onto the plastic….) & anti fogging too!
A large can of “210” is a PITA to ship so here's their (800) 542-8656 order number and ask if there's a local to you dealer for it.

VW Thing (type 181) PC windows instructions
1.) Take a knife and cut the old clear vinyl windows out along the black border but Do not cut or separate the sewn together black border.
2.) Place the PC window up to the inside or the outside (see below) of the black border vinyl, make sure you have enough of the PC window overlap on the black border to allow you to drill the black border for the fasteners.
3.) Use a 1/8” drill bit, drill thru the all ready drilled holes in the PC window (has larger than 1/8” holes for expansion and contraction with heat or cold) thru the black vinyl border. The rivet or the outside button head washer will cover any loose or over sized holes. Be careful that you don’t drill into your fingers!
4.) Temporary insert a fastener in the drilled hole and then drill another hole. Work your way around the PC window.
5.) After all the holes are drilled, remove the PC window and clean all the shavings off.
6.) Peel back on the PC window about 1 or more inches of the protective film on both sides of the PC window. Reposition the PC window back on the black border vinyl and insert the fastener.
7.) For the pop rivet fasteners: insert from the outside thru the border, thru the PC, thru the rivet back up washer and then pop the rivet.
8.) Delete button bolts.....
9.) After all the fasteners are installed, peel off all the protective PC window film and plastic wax the windows. Never use window glass cleaners for PC windows as the chemicals will attack the plastic.
If your black border vinyl inner edge is rough or ugly: You can install these PC windows on the outside of the black border vinyl, by drawing a line on the inside of the PC window (or we can do that for you N/C if you ask us to) so after you have made all the drilled holes….remove, clean and then cut along those lines, peel the film border off and paint it black. You can’t spray too much paint or be a terrible painter as you are painting the inside edges. Let the paint fully dry (give it a day or so) before installing them on the outside of the back vinyl borders. WBp 10/08
