Vanagon, Westfalia Dual Battery Kit Price: 24
|
FOR SALE: Dual battery directions kit that is designed ONLY for Vanagon Westfalia full Campers (With existing stove, refrigerator, sink, etc.) that are water-cooled, 1983-1991. The kit will NOT fit Carats, 7 passenger Vanagons, "Weekender" Pop top Campers or ANY other non WESTY Camper creations. This directions kit will work perfectly and is VERY easy to understand and follow where the RELAY is already present. The relay is always present in the battery compartment under the driver's seat on Westfalia full Campers only from 1983-1991. The kit will not work for air-cooled 1983 full camper models, and will not work for 1982-83 Diesel Vanagons. To be sure check in the battery compartment under the driver's seat for the relay. A small relay should be readily visible attached to the right forward inside wall of the battery compartment. I KNOW these directions work correctly, because I installed this Dual Battery System into my 1984 Westfalia, and hundreds of these direction kits have already been sold in the past several years with minimal or no problems.
The directions are VERY clear and concise! As long as you have a full Westfalia Camper of the years mentioned above you will have no trouble adding an extra battery that operates completely independent of the main battery when the vehicle is not being driven. When the vehicle is in operation both batteries will charge, but the secondary battery is isolated from the first battery when the car is parked eliminating the fear of draining the main battery. Please email me with any questions.
To the purchaser I will provide an approximate 6-page set of general directions, 22 very clear photos and an additional complete 6-page set of wiring directions for the relay and information of how to easily add a 400-2000 watt voltage inverter (bought on the internet) and if desired, a Sharp Half Pint microwave oven (Easily available thru the internet) in the cabinet behind the driver's seat. With this directions kit and the proper sized inverter you can power a multitude of electrical accessories from the second battery and have no fear of being able to start your vehicle later! A small deep cycle automotive battery purchased from Wal-Mart will provide good power, only costs about $55.00 and will fit in the Vanagon battery compartment under the driver's seat. I accept Pay Pal and U.S. Postal money orders.
To the question from a potential purchaser I am adding the following answer I included in my response to him:
A couple of wires (with clamps) that go from each battery terminal are included with this directions kit, depending on the kind of installation you will be doing. If you are planning on installing a permanently mounted inverter (in my opinion the ONLY way to go) you will NOT need the 2 small wires. I would normally provide them automatically but they cost me $10.00 per set, and are completely USELESS if you will be mounting a permanently mounted inverter. The only case in which you will get the 2 small wires is if you will be NOT be installing a permanently mounted inverter. To date I have only had ten persons tell me that they want to use a very small inverter that they would be connecting on a temporary basis to the new battery by alligator clips. In this event I would provide the 2 small attachment wires at no additional charge, other than a $8.00 shipping/handling charge.
For those individuals who will be installing a permanently mounted inverter and do not receive the 2 small wires, there is NO SHIPPING CHARGE!!
REPEAT: NO SHIPPING CHARGE!!!!
When installing a permanently mounted inverter, regular automotive BATTERY CABLES (black and red) are used in place of the small-pictured wires.
What you are paying for (mostly) is HOW to rewire your existing relay and to which terminal to put each wire. The "Kit" includes no actual parts and is a DIRECTIONS KIT with the rare exception that 2 wires would be included for an installation of an inverter on a temporary basis (alligator clips).
You do not have to use a 1200-watt inverter. You COULD use a smaller inverter if you only want to use a lap top computer or a color TV for example. However, with this upgraded directions kit, it is possible to use almost any kind of power tool, even an electric chain saw, soldering gun, vacuum cleaner, shop vac, upholstery shampooer, coffee maker, electric shaver, TV, in cabin propane furnace, etc. etc. etc. Microwave ovens use about 1000 watts for the smaller sizes (the only kind that will fit in a Westy cabinet behind the driver's seat). I bought a 1200-watt inverter to anticipate additional draw on startup of the microwave, and to be able to use other appliances.
The other Dual Battery kits that I see on various websites for sale include a lot of wire, and usually a RELAY (Hella) that is SIMPLY WRONG if you have the full camper. They may be GREAT for a Carat or regular Vanagon but will not work in the full camper with the relay already installed.
Most Dual Battery kits I have seen for sale on the internet do not include simple detailed directions, or clear pictures of how to install a permanently mounted inverter, the type of battery that can be successfully installed, where to purchase economically priced inverters, etc. etc. Not to mention that I am providing free email and phone assistance. Other issues, such as how to deal with clearance issues of the swiveling driver's seat, etc. are issues that I took time to work out. No Dual battery kit I have seen includes such detail. To the successful buyer I will give unlimited technical advice, two sets of clear written directions of about 6 pages each, and 22 excellent clear pics to accomplish a professional installation. I also include web site locations for the best prices on a a variety of high quality inverters.
Most people would not realize you can mount a microwave (and a large inverter) in a Westy, or of which kind of inverter, battery or if desired a microwave.
To the best of my knowledge I am the only person who has been successful at such a complete and comprehensive installation. The microwave setup works GREAT. I love to go to Wal-Mart while on the road, buy a Lean Cuisine, and then cook it on my own, or just to reheat food, coffee, bake potatoes, pizza, or fresh vegetables such as sweet corn, etc. Before I installed this system I found I had to use the regular kitchen or eat at McDonalds. The use of the microwave oven makes your Westy a lot more flexible and how us modern campers would cook if we could add another option. (Microwave ovens also eliminate the cooking mess, grease etc. that entails use of the top burners).
Additionally I find that since I am usually on a diet it is easier to prepare foods the way I would at home and be able to avoid my usual habit of eating less nutritious foods (junk?) while camping.
To the potential purchaser that asked where you plug in such additional accessories as a lap top computer, coffee maker, vacuum cleaner, chain saw, etc.:
It depends on how you choose to wire things. I have my 1200-watt inverter mounted to the front of the pantry cabinet directly behind the driver's seat. Please see pic. The 1200-watt inverter has 2 110 volts outlets for you to plug in any thing you wish (any appliances that can draw up to 1000 or 1200 watts). However I also run an extension cord from the inverter with dual 110 outlets, to a point that attaches to the outside of the rear of the passenger seat. I have a set of two 110 outlets if I am plugged in at a campground (these are the factory installed 110 plugs,) and I also have a second set of two 110 outlets (attached to the rear of the passenger seat) that run off the inverter that is connected to the second battery. If you buy the kit I will include pictures that show EXACTLY how this is done.
It is also possible to mount the inverter directly under the microwave in the inside cabinet if you have one installed. At one time I had a small Sharp Half Pint with the inverter under the microwave, but have since relocated the inverter to the outside of the cabinet.
To sum up: I will provide not just clear directions and 22 detailed pictures, but email and phone support (and the 2 connecting wires if necessary for a non permanent installation of a small inverter) to help the installer achieve what they desire for their particular camper. But remember NO ACTUAL PARTS will be sent to you as this is a directions kit!
Thanks and good luck with your water cooled 1983-1991 Westfalia Camper!
I am including 22 high resolution pictures detailing exactly how to rewire the existing relay in the Full Westy's battery compartment under the driver's seat plus pictures showing how to add the inverter, battery cables, and if desired a microwave, etc. I am also adding 2 sets of carefully written (about 6-7 pages each) and tested directions to make installation as easy as possible. I include internet site locations where to buy for example a new Coleman 1200 continuous watt inverter for $69.00, as opposed to another Westy specialty retailer's price of $179.00, and unlimited amounts of email and phone help. The small wire set alone cost me $10.00 each to have constructed and will be included for free ($8.00 shipping and handling applies) if the purchaser needs them.
Finally, I would add that I have sold over 300 of these directions kits already, and the purchasers have indicated that my enhanced kit and assistance has made their installation trouble free. (You still have to follow the directions correctly!)
I have almost no complaints from the sale of my kit, in over 4 years, and hundreds of sales. I like to believe the main reason for this is the very high quality and clarity of my directions, and the fact that I actually will and do give a lot of free tech support to that rare individual having ANY kind of installation problems.
Thanks in advance if you puchase my kit. You will not be disappointed (and save a lot of time and trouble) if you really want to add more flexible power in your camper.
What YOU will receive if you purchase my kit: 2 sets of written directions approximately 6-7 pages each, a set of pictures (22 in total) showing both general and specific wiring for the dual battery kit and possible microwave installation. ALL directions will be sent in email format IMMEDIATELY after payment is received. I DO NOT send directions by regular US mail (snail mail) for 2 reasons. One, the directions are QUICKLY sent by email, all you have to do is PRINT them, and you save shipping costs! You do not have to wait for several days to receive the directions, and Second, there is nothing in this kit that needs to be printed out, only delaying your receiving your kit.
Payment by Pay Pal at time of purchase, and payments sent to: Asic00@sbcglobal.net, means I will email the complete set of pictures and written directions usually within 1-3 hours after payment is made. I check my email on a frequent basis. Again, payment should be made to Asic00@sbcglobal.net.
If you want to send a check, please email me for my mailing address.
If the purchaser MUST have all the materials printed out, I will do that, however I must add an additional $20.00 to the final cost to cover the cost of printing out the directions, photo developing for each of the 22 photos and the postage to send all of this material to you. Of course, if the purchaser NEEDS the 2 small wires pictured I would mail these wires to the purchaser for the additional cost of $8.00.
Just to be very clear, this directions kit does not include the necessary secondary battery that will be installed under the driver's seat, the 2 automobile battery cables, or the inverter that the purchaser may purchase to install into their camper. The picture of the microwave is included to show a possible use of the new second battery and inverter. It is not included but may be purchased on the internet by the purchaser of this kit. I am selling VERY complete directions and pictures of HOW TO INSTALL all of the necessary items, but they are NOT included.
The ONLY PARTS needed to do the COMPLETE installation are the additional battery, 2 battery cables, inverter, and about 10 inches of 14 gauge wire in red and black.
SECOND ADDENDUM: In spite of my trying to be VERY CLEAR, about 1 in 20 (5%) of "Kit" purchasers send me emails after they have paid for the "Kit" and received all the sets of directions, and pictures that they are wondering when I am going to send the "kit" or some hard wired parts that they seem to think are included in my "kit". One individual contended that the word "KIT" means that he should be getting a set of parts and that since I am not including actual parts I should not use the word "Kit". This is a DIRECTIONS KIT, and DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY PARTS!!! Rewiring the existing relay involves ONLY purchasing the new secondary battery, two battery cables for a price under $10.00 and 2 short pieces of wire of about 12" in length (red and black). No other parts are needed to complete the installation. An inverter would also be needed to convert 12 volts to 110 volts.
The only very infrequent exception is discussed above where 2 small wires are included for specific kinds of installation where the purchaser wants to use an inverter that is temporarily hooked up (alligator clips).
