|
The Sterling is a rare, U.S. made, fiberglass kit car from the 70’s. It’s a period classic, in pretty good condition. This Sterling, #746 was custom built in California in 1975 and was in storage for many years. It was built using all new or rebuilt parts and sits on a 1970 Beetle pan, lowered about four inches. Wholesale parts cost was about $10,000.00, not including car and labor. It is registered as a 1970 VW and has about 20k miles. Engine is 1975, 88mm, 1679cc DP, late style dual relief case, stock cam, 2-barrel progressive Holly/Weber carb, external oil cooler, tuned exhaust, 1975 IRS trans. Has Ghia front beam with disc brakes and 412 drum brakes on rear, Western alloy wheels. Car is 40”h, 68”w, approx.13’ long and weighs about 1300 lbs. Top assembly is power operated via concealed external switch, which raises and lowers the top in about 8 seconds. Also has: motorized pop-up headlights, Curly Redwood dash with all gauges (and warning lights) including speedo, tach, fuel, oil pressure, oil temp, head temp, amps. Heater/defroster w/ electric fan, AM/FM/ Stereo/Tape, 23 channel CB, Pontiac tilt steering wheel unit. Interior in good shape with a couple separations could use new drivers seat cover. Seats are custom upholstered fiberglass buckets. Body is near perfect with a couple minor issues. PLEASE E-MAIL questions to Ron at: Ronjanmayfield@att.net
Car is fast with good acceleration, starts right up and is a good running, driving car, currently on California non-operation. It corners like a slot car and stops on a dime. It rides surprisingly smooth and quiet with a light road feel due to low wind resistance. Gets about 30 mpg trip, 25 town. Car is not overly loud and has a deep, rich idle tone with sport car rasp under power. Imagine pulling into a gas station and pop the top on this baby! Will consider trade for well-equipped, good running Honda or Toyota, etc. Serious inquiries only. PLEASE E-MAIL questions to Ron at: Ronjanmayfield@att.net Thanks, Ron.
