Pinion adjusting ring, close-up. Arrows point to location of O-ring seat and the threaded base. You will need to keep track of how many revolutions (yellow paint mark helps me count) it takes to remove the ring, so it goes back in with the correct amount of tension. I cannot recall at this writing whether this piece is actually different from the Differential bearing adjusting rings.

Removing the differential itself. (2) and (4) indicate the bearings which must be cared for throughout the process, and you can see wear on the rollers. (1) is showing the hash marks I used to count how many turns it took to remove one of the Differential adjusting rings, the star is indicating where the large O-ring seats to seal the transmission half. Don't know what happened to (3) ???

The differential being removed. It's kind of heavy, so take care not to drop or bang it, as the awkwardness and fit would only allow me one hand to reach in and pull it up.

Differential case, interior view with the differential itself removed. 1) is the mark I made to help count the revolutions of the Pinion adjusting ring during removal, 2) is the input end of the Drive Pinion from the transmission, 3) is the driving end of the Drive Pinion where it mates to the differential, 4) is indicating where one of the O-rings seats and also indicates the torque converter end of the case, 5) is indicating the Governor drive assembly, 6) is unknown to me at this writing, but I think it was a roll pin installed. 7) is showing one of the two Differential adjusting ring locations.

Getting in there to pull out the Drive Pinion (star) and (1) is indicating part of the Governor drive assembly.

This is the Final Drive half mounted on the engine stand. The Torque Converter is in the oil pan tub. It was cheaper to just order a remanufactured torque converter than to have this one rebuilt.

1) Drive Pinion- This is where the transmission mates up and delivers its energy to the Final Drive. 2 and 3) show the Drive Pinion Bearing Adjusting Ring and its lock tab. Blue arrow points to the large O-ring that seals the transmission half to the Final Drive.
