Dual Carb Vacuum Connection grailtown
Just an idea I went with as it came to me and bits and pieces in my garage allowed..., could be done simpler I'm sure. All four intake manifolds are tapped for a small vacuum port ,then all four lines collect at a central 'canister' (pipe:) that ties into original larger vacuum line with original one way valve. Not knowing the true engineering dynamics in any of this, I reasoned that a 'small' amount of vacuum harvested equally from each manifold run, might have a more stable and less noticeable influence on the engine and carburetion performance as a whole. I also reasoned that a small reservoir connection/collection point for the four smaller lines would dampen any 'pulse-like' dynamics of the individual lines and create a more balanced vacuum condition within the system as a whole. The end result has been very strong and predictable brake booster operation, meaning the power assist works as well if not better than original and my carb tuning and engine performance is very stable. This original install as pictured, has been in operation over 10 years now without any vacuum leaks or brake booster perfomance issues at all. I have put " refresh " vacuum lines on my to do list for general maitainence since they are over 10 years old now. Tempting to change out the original VW one way vacuum valve, but as the saying goes, "if it's not broke, don't fix it ". View other images: From grailtown Search Forums for photo
