1963 VW Bug Convertible Todd Ramsey
This is a cool resto-mod 63 VW Bug Convertible with a lot of 1954 parts including "Heart" tail lamps, convertible "W" decklid, "H" rear apron, fluted real Euro Bosch glass headlamp lenses and semaphore turn signals.
It's on a 65 chassis with an IRS rear end conversion, narrowed by 1.5 inches. Rear sway bar and KYB gas shocks complete the rear end.
4-wheel disc brakes all with a Porsche 5 x 130mm, 5 lug pattern
The 2 inch narrowed adjustable front beam is converted to a ball joint style and has dropped spindles with KYB gas shocks. Front wheels are deep 6" Porsche Fuchs "Hearts."
The transmission is a Porsche 901 5-speed. CV joints are from a later IRS Type 2. Axles are narrowed Type III to accomodate deep 7" Porsche Fuchs "Hearts."
The engine is a 2332cc with Weber 48 IDAs, Super-Flo 44mmx37mm ported heads, Scat 84mm crank, Cima 94mm pistions, Engle 130 cam w/straight cut gears, external oil filter and cooler w/temp controlled fan and a Porsche 911 style fan/shroud/alternator. Best thing is it starts, drives and runs very reliably. Doesn't drip oil. Sounds great too.
It has a very cool tan leather interior theme with VDO gauges, Recaro seats (front) Porsche 911 steering wheel and rear seat, tilt steering column, completely restored Stayfast canvas convertible top and much more.
We purchased this in December 2012 from the original owner (John) in California and are now enjoying it in Arizona. John did a wonderful job of building this gem over many, many years and was featured in a few magazines as well as covered as a winner at many VW shows.
