VWs in CHiPs TV show Rome
Popular TV show from 1977 thru 1983 featured 2 California Highway Patrol officers Frank "Ponch" Poncharello and Jon Baker (Erik Estrada, Larry Wilcox) riding their Kawasaki motorcycles in the Los Angeles area. Many VWs seen in background or driving past on the road or freeways.
1, 2, 3. Orange late Squareback with large blue truck that lost its brakes. Truck driven by veteran stunt driver Carey Loftin, who is seen briefly driving Herbie the Love Bug when Herb hits the log in the road and Peter Thorndyke is catapulted into the trunk. No collision between the truck and the S'back. Season 1 Episode 17 "Hitch-Hiking Hitch", 1978.
4.White '72 Super Beetle, S4E1 "Go-kart Terror" 1980.
5. Blue early Fastback, same as #4.
6. Gold 412 Wagon, parked. S2E14 "Repo Man" 1979.
7. Red early Beetle Karmann Cabrio on highway. S3E19 "Off Road" 1980.
8. Brown/white late Bay, parked. same as #7.
9. Ivory late Bay deluxe parked. S3E14 "Wheeling" 1979.

More progress addressing rear quarter rust areas Cees Klumper
Removed inner trim, fender, to expose the rusted areas; cut out rust to healthy metal, make paper templates, then cut out from fresh sheet metal (0.9 mm mild steel), weld in place - full welding in sections that will be visible, less-than-full where it will be invisible.
