The bottom was re-done in basic after market black basket weave, but has an original VW horse hair pad.

Recently, I've had problems with non-VW single port manifolds. In both cases, new aftermarket manifolds were installed and could not be made to seal properly at the head. One is on an engine that I built for myself, and the second was on an engine a friend brought to me to correct a running problem. Check out the difference in the connection end and the build quality! If some type of special seal/gasket was available, the aftermarket might be usable...
Long story short, a used genuine manifold is better than a new aftermarket.

P.P.S. Ran across yet another one of these manifolds at a shop where I know the owner. Same problem; poor running and won't idle.
