Metal foil on threads to perserve joint lengths.
Note the LCA bushing, how it's pushed to the rear. There is some scaring of the frame from the metal insert.

Both LCA bushings looked like this. The frame has a little bit of damage. The he-haw I thought was coming from the UCA bushings I think was really coming from here and the radius rod bushing.

Knocking lower ball joint out from upright. Putting in new joints don't care if I ding treads. Couple good whacks and it popped off. LBJ out of LCA took a press and a careful setup.

Tie rod end loose with pickle fork. Nut is loose but just left on to keep joint from flying. (not really a problem here, old habit)

Remove all the inner CV bolts and lay the inner axle/cv to the rear of front diff. Undo UCA bolts.
Twist upright a couple different ways and outer joint/axle comes out from hub.

With axle out of the way loosen LBJ. Spring compressor, bottle jack under LCA (to take weight) and small floor jack under shock. You can remove the shock/spring this way without the spring compressor but I like to be safe and take up some tension on spring.

Remove radius arm nuts and bushings.
Radius rod bushing damage. These bushings looked pretty good from the outside! The metal part of the bushing is half worn away, the inner sleeve has started eating into the frame. The he-haw noise I thought was coming from the UCA bushings I think was really coming from here and the LCA bushing rubbing on frame.
Many people who replace their UCA bushings and still have he-haw need to look here.

Three jaw puller to loosen the axle from hub. There is enough slack in the CV to allow the small amount of movement needed to free the axle.

Removing the inner CV bolts with the wheel gone requires something to keep axle from rotating. I use a three foot breaker bar.

Removing UCA bushings using the bolt and and socket. Tricky setup on the press to keep things from moving. Want to be careful not to damage bolt and not have anything fly. YMMV

Slight damage on frame (1 o'clock to 3 o'clock) from radius rod bushing rubbing. Glad I caught it before any more damage would have required welding.

Ready to start the teardown. Things look pretty good but there's damage lurking.
At this point you should already have the axle nut loose while tires were on the ground. Loosen the radius arm nut also.

Brake caliper/disc off, and nuts loose. At first I was just gonna hang the caliper to one side but decided it was easier to get it out of the way completely. Undid and capped brake line.

With both wheels off I wanted to make sure there was good support. Each side got jack-stands, Hy-lift/jack and spare wheel with blocks under frame. (I moved the spare under the front dif and added blocks of wood to reduce gap)

This must be the D6 compound noted on page 40.18 of Bentley.
(edit; no it's not, just some kind of sealant) I originally thought that the axles had never been out but going back through the OP's receipts found a bill.
Ended up installing the hub with Loctite 648 retaining compound.
The purpose is to fill the small gaps between the splines to prevent galling and resist vibration.
