1978 Super Beetle - Engine Rebuild on Frame

Starting Engine re-assembly. Cleaned and blasted all parts and covered with high temp powder coat. Looks almost like chrome. Keeping to original parts as much as possible. And - wish me luck - keeping as Fuel Injection too...

apart 3 pieces with needle into seat the total length measured .917 in. this is used to make the modified needle/seat the SAME exact length. This is done after the end is drilled. place the modified needle in line with the seat and a ball in between all 3 in a row and measure the total length. The difference from what you have minnus the .917 in. is how much you need to remove from the outer end of the modified needle.

Ready to re assemble I used red loctite to secure the seat into the holder the only other critical measurement is how far the modified needle extends out from the holder. my measurement came out to .152 in. as long as you are close 5-10 ths. this will not up set the float fuel level. After the assembly is back together stand it up right and "TAP" the end of the needle to seat the ball into the old seat. DO NOT hammer on it just a light tap is all that is needed! ! ! Then to adjust the .152 measurement use a drift a bit smaller than the seat O.D. to tap/hammer the seat in to get the correct dimension go SLOW and check after EACH tap the seat will get ruined if you need to tap the needle back in if you went too far. Should that happen just file or grind the end of the modified needle to get the correct length. Stand the needle/seat into a 1/4 drive socket needle end down to allow the needle clearance when setting this dimension
