These are the first "officially" imported 12 Beetles in Finland in 1950. Those were really hard times as we had to pay huge amount of war reparations to Soviet Union, originally worth US$300,000,000 at 1938 prices. So every (western) car was really hard to get.

Getting a rough estimate of valve stretch and/or seat collapse. I did not have the luxury of a clean and convenient shop environment, so the measurements are not tightly defined, but gave a good idea about variances. This is the 1/2 side, here I am measuring the No. 2 exhaust valve tip. That is a machinist's rule held across the tops of all four valves and resting on the edge of the head on either end. The feeler gauge is inserted several times until it won't fit, then I write down the accumulated gage fingers and do the math. Compare all four valves, showing the actual differences. This helps determine if there is a problem with any of the valves.

These are the rocker arms as I found them from the 1/2 side of the engine. I was able to remove the rocker arms from all four of the cylinders to get a good comparison of valve tip heights.
