I cut away the center belly pan and here's what it looks like underneath. A mouse apartment complex fell out of the space between the floor and the pan.

There's that steel round plate in front of the tranny again. Appears to be home-brewed mount for beetle nosecone part number 113 301 173 found on nose cone.
