Get the funk out
67 Florida Deluxe
So this is what a VW engine looks like without all the caked on oil, grease, dirt and funk. Who knew? I also had the shocks replaced. After 38 years, I figured it was time! Wow, it rides like a Cadill...OK, like a bug with new shocks.

Love that new car smell!
67 Florida Deluxe
Well, at least a fresh engine... Here's my '67 with the original "H" block engine after surgery. Surprisingly, after 150,429 miles the crank, cams, valve stems, pistons, rings, and heads were in amazing condition. (Oil...it does an engine good!) I did have the pistons replaced, though, because the upper grooves were worn a hair over spec for new rings. Of course, new valve stems and springs. All else, cleaned, machined and put back. (You'll notice those obnoxious U.S. hose clamps on the breather tubes...iiiieeee! I had the spring clamps in the glove comparment so they wouldn't get lost at the shop. They're back on now!) Oh, and when the fuel pump died in post-op, I had to wait until my rebuild kit came from Wolfsburg West (some things from Brazil are quite nice - just not bug parts!). Pump seems to work OK now.
