The 60 has a 4 tab hood. 4 Tab hoods are hard to find. My 60 came with a 64-67 hood. Feeling screwed, I laid in wait and searched. I pounced on the next best thing I could. Unfortunately, the 63 hood I found was torn and dented in a few places. On the flip side, it had almost no rust. Here the hood is positioned to repair the tears where the handle mounts, and the cracks in the very front. No audience like Mickie and Minnie, by the way....

At the Portland swap meet, I scored a humpback gas tank in great shape, and a 63 hood. The 63 hood has no emblem pedestal, and still has the holes to accomodate the Wolfsburg crest. And the price was truly unbelievable. The hood had been hurt in a fender bender and would require more repair than the one I had, but I went for it. Now, unless some real smart guy is looking under my bonnet, I will be visually stock in the hood dept.

I just brought "George" home today and I'm looking forward to many years of happiness. The previous owner won this car from a radio station and has be sitting in his shop for years.

Various pics of stuff getting done at a gruelingly slow pace. The shadow here is making my work look bad; the angled pressing at far right is where I had to weld in a new piece because of the old gas heater. Now you can't tell the pressings apart. Also, I found a good humpback tank last summer at a swap meet. If I can get a good L29 match, I'll paint it the original color. Otherwise gloss black.

You can also see that on the driver side, I ran right into the accelerator cable tube. That wakes you up, because, of course you think it is the gas line at first. I changed pants before continuing.

1960 didn't have mounts for belts. I am using lap-only. Here are some pictures of my mount fabrication and installation. No problem on the passenger side. I used an 1/8th inch starter bit for these holes followed by a step bit. The plates are 1/8 inch plate with 7/16 fine thread nuts welded on. The plates on the tunnel were plug welded, then perimeter welded, then painted to match the refurbished pan. the 1/8 inch plate very closely matches the thickness of the tunnel mat, so this upgrade will be nearly invisible with the stock rubber mats in place.

I restored the pedal cluster, and welded the accel bracket back to the floor. I am also switching back to the accel pedal versus the roller.

After filing, drilling, filling and sanding, I painted and then sanded using 2000 grit. I suppose with a big enough box, I could paint the whole car.

This piece I fabricated using 20 gauge steel an simple tools. Yes, i was just learning to weld.

I eventually made this repair disappear, along with the others.
