1971 Super Beetle Fuel Tank Strainer Filter Posted: Sat Sep 20, 2014 9:11 pm     Views: 47      Rating: Not rated

There IS a brass strainer/Filter inside the gas tank on my 1971 Super Beetle. As far as I can tell it is stock and no vendors carry a replacement.

Here was my solution. I first removed the cork from the new standard beetle brass filter (I did that prior to taking this pic) and then I cut about 40mm from the bottom of the new filter using a sharp pair of scissors (the filter on the left is the standard beetle one). This is my new filter.

I used a sharp utility knife and cut around the base of the old super belter brass filter and then just pulled it off.
