New hoses. No clamps???

45 year vintage Vw mechanic has told me that correct size cloth wrapped hoses require NO CLAMPS. he said, put it on the fitting and try to get it off the next day. He is right... I can't even get them off to put a clamp on. Guess it pays to listen to experience.
