Engine with a carburettor spacer.
Photo from eBay auction #161464238394, a 1967 Beetle with an engine that the seller says is a "1.2 L 1965".
(The spacer under the carb is supposed to replace the governor on a short governor-specific manifold, although I believe this manifold here may be a standard manifold, and the spacer is unnecessary?)
