Only known information as of this posting is that this is a Kafer and it was a coachbuilt custom in 1953 by the Spohn Karosserie in Ravensburg, Germany. Spohn is better known for the "Plastik" fiberglass prototype done for the VW factory a couple of years later.
"Spohn Customs" were an attempt by Spohn to continue coachbuilding in the post- WWII era. There were some two and a half dozen Spohn Customs, most on US chassis commissioned by USAF pilots.
Anyone have other photos, or better photos of this car. Does it still exist anywhere? THANK YOU.
There is a "Spohn Custom Enthusiasts" page on Facebook which I administer. I own a Spohn Custom on a Ford chassis. |
