I had two original retractable seat belts - that were frozen solid. I followed the soaking in Dawn procedure and it worked great, and cleaned up the belt as well. Once the Dawn freed up the catch I pulled the belts out to their full extended length and clamped the belt. That exposed the catch/latch pieces enough to where I could wire brush and clean away remaining rust. What I found that helped "in between" the metal pieces was my wife's nail file board. They are thin and cheap. Of course I had to get her replacements. A little spray lube in between the metal (not the belt material) and they work like new. |
