I have a Haynes repair manual for the Beetle. I've been able to figure out most of the wiring diagram for my Bug. But on the diagram are tiny numbers - most are superimposed over wires as they enter or leave the fuse box or a light or switch, etc. Examples are: 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.5, 2.5, 4.0, 6.0. (At least I think those are decimal points - they're really small.) Are those indicators for amperage? Wire size? I thought it was for amps, but it seems that 8, 10, 15, 25 were common amperages. Help!! Thanks.

Some terminals are numbered for reference - like on the back of the light switch, or ignition switch. I know 15 is one that pops up...not sure about the others.

That makes sense because on this diagram, if a wire has, say 1.5 on it coming out of the fuse box and I follow that wire all the way to a light, there's a 1.5 on the wire where it goes into the light.

I was hoping those numbers had something to do with amperage. Otherwise, there's no way to tell on this diagram what size fuses to use for different things.

This is for a 71:

Not sure if it applies to your 70. Your Haynes manual should have an amp listing on the page for the fuses.

It is the gauge of the wire in millimeters squared.

Ahhh....I see. You wouldn't happen to know of a conversion chart online to convert from those numbers to AWG sizes would you?
