| I have a restoration project a 1970 Porsche 911 with no engine, I just picked up a 1.5 VW engine with 1.6 Heads.. will this work?? someone said that it should bolt up to my tranny...I don't have the funds for a 2.4 or 2.7 right now, so before I start rebuilding this motor will it work? |

Not sure if it will "bolt up", but you'll have some flywheel and engine tin issues.
Why bother trying to get a VW engine to fit? If you can't afford a 911 engine, then the car probibly needs alot of other work. Just wait and do it right. |

I think the '70 still used the 901 tranny so the bolt pattern in the bellhousing and input shaft will fit. The flywheel will be a little wonky on the VW motor though.
I don't remember off the top of my head if the offset is deeper or shallower. You'll need a different starter too most likely. The dub ring gear is a different tooth than the porsche.
Take notes, post pix :) |

| The flywheel assembly on the 911/912 I believe sticks out somewhere around 5/16 of an inch further than a VW flywheel. I think the starter teeth will engage the flywheel on about half the depth of the teeth. Me also thinks that 1970 still used the same self supporting starter as the auto bug, so the pitch of the teeth would have to be the same as a bug. People put 901 transmissions in bugs with vw engines, so it should work in a Porsche too. |
