I just bought a beetle that the previous owner say he has heard run with a push start. He thought the reason it would not start was the battery cables. I just replaced the battery cables and battery and the starter works and turns the belt attached to the two pullys on the rear of the engine but I hear no combustion. I have attempted squirting a little gas into the carb but that does not do anything. Can someone give me some suggestions on how to get this thing started. I am really looking forward to driving the little thing.
Thanks,

If the car turns over , check to see if your getting spark. with car in nuetral , brake on , clutch in, have someone crank it over while pull out coil wire and hold it close to metal. Should get spark . If not , the points might be closed up. |

Do you have gas? Sounds dumb but it happens? Do you have power to the coil? Then do you have spark comming out of the coil? Start with that stuff. |
