View original topic: Exhaust Fumes in Heater Output

Hello all,

I'm getting exhaust smell in the car when I use the heaters in my 'new' '69 Fastback. Any places for me to check before I fork over for some new heat exchangers?

How can I check if my heat exchangers are leaking?

Can't drive it like this very much, it really gasses me out after awhile... cough! cough!

Thanks in advance,
Tom C.

Check for exhaust leaks where the muffler connects to the heater boxes. Are these gaskets intact. There are supposed to be some clamps and gaskets on the heater boxes where the heater box tin joins next to the muffler.
Are your valve cover gaskets leaking oil into the heater boxes?? I doubt if the heater boxes are leaking internally. The best guess, is an external leak.
