I know I'am kind of a newb around here and I'am mostly just lurking but I have learned so much from the group. Saturday night I was coming home from the store. Somebody ran the red light and t boned my 1970 baja. I just put in some nice beard seats and hadn't installed any seat belts yet. I don't remember anything about the wreck. So moral of the story you never know what will happen. I have learned my lesson seat belts need to be that #1 priority in your buildup. Luckily I told my six year old she couldn't go with me because I didn't have any seatbelts. About the only thing left of the baja is the seats and the motor looks fixable. I am kinda losing heart on my own baja. Hopefully everything works out. I'll be back to normal soon. Don't forget your belts folks. Stay safe, Ordcorpdw.

Good to hear that you learned your lesson. bad to hear you had to learn it the hard way.
Don't get discouraged. Get a lawyer, and make sure you get compensated for your loss.

Glad to here your feeling and getting better.
Hell of a way to spend more time with the family.

IF and When the time comes...Someone in Samba Land might have a doner car in Arizona :?:

Lynn here, Sooooo glad you're getting better! Excellent decision not to let your daughter ride with you without a seat belt! Good dad! Ok, here's rerfert again.

Seriously I will have to come by and check out your modifications.

deja vu. late december of 2002 i was the passenger in a 69 bug (non-baja) that was hit the same way. I came out of that with a scar above my left eye, a right thumb that randomly pops, and a hip that feels funky when i walk alot on it.

bad stuff mate, always terrible to hear of car crashes, especially when a beetle is involved.

Any idea how fast the other guy was going?

ordcorpdw Thu Feb 10, 2005 12:12 am

Apparently he was speeding through the light. I have some momento pieces of the other car. I don't remember much but folks say I flew out the passenger side. I could have been much worse. I am just bruised and my memory is kinda sucking. I have to thank the local P.D. And Fire dept. They were right there And a big thanks to my friends Rick and Shawn. Everybody has been great. Thanks..

Got a new bug to turn into a baja. Thanks to rterfert. So I am pretty excited. Hopefully this time around the project will be completed. Seat belts first right! Hopefully I can get some build up photos on here as we go.

 Jeez PDW, I hope you bought a lottery ticket that day, because you are one lucky guy (wait, I'll get to it). Good call on the "no belt, no kids" policy. I'm damn impressed. It's too easy, and too tempting to bend the rules for convenience. From the look of the custom bodywork he gave you, I'm surprised to hear you got away fairly clean on that. It must have punted you pretty good. Very lucky indeed. Keep on the mend, and just a suggestion, but there are much better ways to get more clearance for bigger rear tires. Glad to hear you are onto a new project. I'm looking forward to pics. Oh, and we'll all understand if you go with an exo-skeleton cage on the new one.

The old car started like this
(for the purists...it's a 1970 and not anywhere near straight enough for a street car) :)
And the new car looks like this

:) Almost twins :)

Let's hope they don't try to get matching tattoos. I am currently going through the accident investigation part of a law enforcement academy. Some of the instructors believe that the shape and metal thickness of a bug will hold up better than most of the newer car designs. It's kind of neat to understand and apply what I am learning to what happened.

Man, I thought it was Friday when I got hit. My days are a little off still.
