I have a 68 and want to revert back to a 5 lug approach. I saw in a related chat that someone changed a 69 without a problem....

Just want to confirm, If you get 5 lug drums for a 4 lug bug should these fit without any issues.

Will rear splines be the same?

Do you need any spacers for the rear axle splines so that brake shoes etc fit.

Ive heard that the brake show widths are slightly wider on the 4 lug vw????????????

It's been covered many times. The search button is your friend.
Use 66-67 front drums with the appropriate bearings and rear Thing drums. The rears will be slightly wider than your current 4 luggers so be aware of this with the tire clearance.

The rear drums will bolt directly to your rear axles. The only thing you'll need is a spacer (3/4-inch) thick that fits between the drum & the axle nut. This is because the snout on a wide-5 drum used on Pre '67 Beetles used a short axle. The spacer will compensate for the longer axle used on your Beetle.
