I picked up a 66 bug that will not start. It has been converted to 12V and has an alternator. It turns over quickly (battery is fine) but doesn't sound close to starting. There isn't any spark coming from the plug wires. I replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points and still no spark from the wires (all of them). I checked the resistance from the coil to cap wire and there wasn't any. I was wondering if the coil is the next thing to replace or if anyone has any other suggestions? I appreciate it!

Check to see if the coil is getting 12 volts. If so, and still no spark, then time to replace that thing.

Remove one of the valve covers. While someone tries to crank the engine over, watch to see if you can see the valve train move. If the rocker arms aren't moving, the cam might have gone flat.

Unless the coil wire is solid copper, you should show some resistance. I just checked my coil wire. It showed 350 ohms.

I checked the voltage at the coil and it was 12V. I will take a valve cover off tomorrow and take a look while someone tries to start it. Thanks for the replies.
