| I have a 66 Squareback. I am having troubles with the I.D. tag numbers (under the trunk) and the numbers stamped in the pan verifying with the resources available. Both my numbers match and are as follows 366205822. Any help or knowledge greatly appreciated. My tag is also stamped type 36. I went back and verified that my numbers are correct and they are? The car is still original paint and tag has not been altered. |

366205822 is a 1966 Squareback built in March, 1966.
36 = Squareback
6 = 1966
205822 = Chassis # 205822 off the 1966 production line
You may be confused because a lot of VIN listings start with "316" because they use the Fastback/Notchback style VIN. All Squarebacks start with 36 beginning with the 1965 model year.

| Thanks Everett! Yes the 316 was jamming me up. For 20 years I have solely concentrated on Buses and Bugs. I had a great opportunity on aquiring 2 66 Squares (always liked the look just never put much interest into them)and now I am deleting bug parts as I am hooked - must be the challenge. |
