5.5's should fit fine. As long as the car isn't lowered, or lowered much, I wouldn't see a problem. Even lowered quite a bit, would 5.5's rub bad while steering? |

What kind of rims are you talking about?Empi's are 5.5"wide,and don't have clearance probs, but some other rims do |

On my 1965 I am running American Eagle (imitation empi's) that are 15" and 5.5" wide with 195 50 15 series tires. The car is lowered a bit with an adjustable front end. I have no problems with rubbing. Yes I like my one piece windows and I have a 68 tranny with adapters up front until I get disk brakes. This is why I have the 8 spoke look instead of the 5 spokes.

I'd say 90% of the wheels used on Beetle front ends are 5.5" size The other 10% use either 3.5" or 4.5" wheels. Anything wider than a 5.5" is usually reserved for the rear |

My 70 has an adjustable beam all the way down with 185/50's on 5.5 empis. They dont rub at all. But with 165's the rubbed they headlights like crazy... |

I had problems with rubbing when I had 5.5" 8 spokes on my lowered beetle. The tires were 235 70R 15s I believe, although the adapters were probably the cause of the problem. |
