Do any of you know a source for a thermostat for my '67 Beetle? Aircooled.net is out of them. Looks like CIP1 has thermostats in stock, but not the brackets or connecting rods. I need the whole setup. Thanks.

The Wolfsburg West listings say their thermostats "fit all engines through 1964."

Where is the thermostat found? My repair manuals just tell me its 'somewhere around the fanshroud.

The thermostat is a round brass coil spring mounted on a bracket underneath cylinders 1 & 2. There is a threaded rod exiting the top of the thermostat that attaches to the cooling flaps inside the fan shroud or to the air control ring depending upon the engine you have. I had a veteran VW yard guy tell me once that aircooled VW's did not have thermostats. Being a wise #$$ I looked aorund in the yard until I found an assembly at which point he wanted to charge me $60 for it. I told him he should pay me since I just educated him and then I left.
