delete and thanks

with the amount of weight those wheels and tires represent, i'd get away from adapters and have the discs drilled for the right bolt pattern. I beleive cbperformance and also CIP1 offer custom drilled rotors.

Any one else have an idea? I seem to be having trouble finding a empi kit for link pin suspension . Can I just change the front ibeam with ball joint suspension . I have a second bug I was working on so it almost abandon since I got the pimp slap :) :0

HamburgerBrad Thu Feb 24, 2005 11:56 am

leave the suspension as is. do like bljones said and get blank rotors and have them drilled. EMPI is usually taiwaneese crap. they these by CB Performance:

Dear God! thou hast blasphemed thy Volkswagen.

 i do believe that is the first time i have seen that question in the off road forum

Well new plan is taking shape . I talked with a Ricko at Empi that was in on the project when they did it . I told him the problem i was having and that i wanted to use there link pin disk kit but found out they dont have one Yet . Soon though , . I explained the issues and what i had here on site. I have a 1970 std beetle that is Built from the ground up . Rolling chassis. And the body has been fixed as well . He said do a transplant of the baja body to the 1970 pan . I didnt know this was possable !! also with the ball joint i will be able to track the rear tires better . I am torn on what to do . So this is what i have so far . I need to get the car back on the road and make some loot to pay for the conversion . So i am ordering the link pin conversion system and completely overhauling the rears with new drums ,springs, etc.

And" Dear God! thou hast blasphemed thy Volkswagen." WTF are you talking about there buddy ? Did some one forget to take his pills ? LOL Just kidding . :)

HamburgerBrad Sun Feb 27, 2005 8:41 pm

the problem we see with the balljoint conversion is that's not what usually happens around here. usually people ditch the balljoint suspension in favor of the linkpin suspension

now, toward the end of that paragraph,, you stopped making sense. so, are you going to put the body on the 1970 pan? and as far as not having disc brakes for linkpin cars, thats bullshit. unless there's some factor of this you arent telling us.

I was just going to retract that last statement after reading you post at the top of the page . Looking at that and your build up of the rail i put allot of faith in your opinion . What do you think i should do ? I am keeping the big ass wheels on here for now , Im just driving it on the street so its not a concern of off roading at all . I cant get both kits for the front and the rear this month so what should i do first fronts in disk and back drums ? or Back with disk and the front with drums ? Im a stainless steel fab man, I no nothing when it comes to brakes. I was under the inpression that %70 of stopping power came from the front . Thats why i planed to order the front disks first . Its a pain when there is no one around here in Richmond Va that has any clue about VW's

HamburgerBrad Sun Feb 27, 2005 8:58 pm

the only time you want more stopping power in the rear is when you actually go off road (disc rear, drum front). for street driving, you will want more stopping power in the front due to transfer of weight. then there comes a problem when you add a much larger rotating mass (big wheels). it is much harder to stop that than the smaller rotating mass. I would suggest trying front discs first, then if that doesnt work out as well as planned, go with rear discs as well

joe5798 on ebay Sun Feb 27, 2005 9:03 pm

Thanks brad that is what ill do . Ill probubly just sell the rolling chassis and parts to get the disks all the way around . Do you know of a good conversion kit for Link Pin ? I will have to get adaptors or spacers made to hold the same stance .Id imagine there is a company that makes them predrilled for chevy bolt pattern .

HamburgerBrad Sun Feb 27, 2005 9:06 pm

do not convert. if you are switching pans, stick with the suspension on that pan. the link pin conversion is only done by fabrication on off-road cars

HamburgerBrad Sun Feb 27, 2005 9:08 pm

and you can get disc brakes pre-drilled for the chevy pattern. with the extra stress from the weight of the wheels, i would try to not use adapters

joe5798 on ebay Sun Feb 27, 2005 9:11 pm

I will leave it as is and not change the pan . Seems foolish now , Thanks for the input

I will
. Is there a realy got kit out there in VW world . I dont want to buy junk that ill regret later " Dont even bring up the fact i bought this car :) "

HamburgerBrad Sun Feb 27, 2005 9:13 pm

you dont seem to be understanding this correctly. for your camber problems, the 1970 pan will work best. the type of front suspension does not matter unless you take the car off-road, which you do not

you can buy CB Performance discs in any pattern you want
