All,
I passed Tarrant County, Texas Emissions on the first try! The weird thing is that my bus burns a little oil...I guess they don't check for carbon, or whatever the heck oil turns into when it burns...
Here's how:
1. Brought the exhaust back to full stock (replaced everything past the heat exchangers).
2. Didn't have to put a new O2 sensor in...actually, I just forgot until I was watching them hook it up and thought "oh crap."
3. Also forgot to replace the horn....another "oh crap."
The results:
HIGH SPEED EMISSIONS
HC(ppm): Standard=390, Me=50
CO(%): Standard=3.12, Me=0.08
CO2(%): Standard= N/A, Me=15.5
O2(%): Standard=N/A, Me=0.2
Nox(ppm): Standard=2796, Me=718
DILUTION: Standard=>6.0, Me=15.58
LOW SPEED EMISSIONS
HC(ppm): Standard=397, Me=63
CO(%): Standard=2.24, Me=0.26
CO2(%): Standard= N/A, Me=15.1
O2(%): Standard=N/A, Me=0.4
Nox(ppm): Standard=3002, Me=897
DILUTION: Standard=>6.0, Me=15.36
No, I have no effing idea what any of those numbers mean....
Where I took my bus:
Speedee Oil Change & Tune
6708 Mid Cities Blvd.
North Richland Hills, TX 76180
My fellow air cooled vanagon owners should be able to appreciate just what a good day it was.
X:robot:
KEY WORDS: Emissions, CO2, Catalytic Converter, Inspection, Exhaust
Almost forgot: I have a 1982, Vanagon Westfalia Camper, completely stock, 90k original miles. |

| Congratulations, is this going to be a daily driver or a weekend get away car. You say you pass on the first try does that mean you brought the bus back to life after sitting out for a while? Good luck. |

Kind a sorta....
It had a grand total of 10k miles put on it between 1992 and 2004. So yah, I guess I brought it back from the dead. Literally, as well as figuratively, since the P.O. was an elderly gentlemen who passed on. I bought it from his son with 82,500 miles on it. Been babying it back to stock since. Now, I've reached that point that all project car owners reach where they say "O.K., I've dumped enough goddamn money into this thing, time to just drive it for awhile."
Da van is my daily driver, I have an '04 Land Rover Discovery that I've put almost 1000 miles on in the last four months. However, now that the Texas summer is about to kick in, its time to break out the Triumph.... |
