Does anyone have any pictures of a 67 Standard with a sliding sunroof? I understand they had them in Europe but never imported them to the States.

If you mean a sliding metal sunroof then yes they were imported and ragtops were not available anywhere by 67.

This one was bought in Texas, USA

In Europe in 1967 they could order what was called a "Standard" bug which was stripped down. On the "Stardard" bug I'm not sure if it only came with a ragtop or not. In the States the 67's Bugs could be had with the sliding metal sunroof like yours.

Bill May will have some input on this one....1967 Euro "Standard" was available with a ragtop. So says Bill May.....

You would think that with The Samba's worldwide reach there would be at least a few photos of these rare (in the USA) Bugs in the gallery!

Standard bare bones Bugs had ragtops thru the 1967 model year.

If you are a dedicated reader of VolksWorld magazine (a UK based publication) you will have no doubt seen several feature 1967 standard Beetles equipped with ragtop sunroofs. They're extremely rare because most people ordered Deluxe Beetles over the cheap Standard models. Why go bare bones (standard) and then order a sunroof for more money? Hence, less than 4 are kown to exist, all are in the Uk.

i have seen 2 since 1965. i worked on one at vw dealership. 63 was last year for ragtop in deluxe beetle-1967 was last year for ragtop in base model standard in europe.

A 67 standard with sliding sunroof, too cool. What about 64-66 was the standard available with a rag top? As for pictures/articles in VolksWorld, does anyone have an idea as to what issue(s)? I sure would like to see some pics.

Thanks, Jonny

Im fixing up a 67 that I recently aquired. Plans are to make it into a Euro 67 (but 12 volt). I suppose since it wont be an original "Euro" I wouldn't get too much flack for cutting in a RAGTOP... It has a metal sunroof now.
However,,,, How well known is this knowledge of ragtop equipped 67's here in the states? Most people here would probably look at it and say, "its just a 67 with a cut in ragtop." Not that I care what other prople think. I want something unique, not hacked...

yes, they were availible 64,65,66 and 67 in the standard model as an option. not deluxe model after 1963 model year.

So does anyone have a picture they can post, and what month and year did VolksWorld do a story on the 67 Bug. There seems be some interest in the forum with this subject. Some pictures posted in the gallery or a thread to some would be very helpful to everyone.

I ran through my back issues of VolksWorld magazines and found one. Grab a copy of the December 1995 issue (page 84-87) it has a full color, 4-page article on Paul Westwood's Standard 1967 Beele with factory sliding ragtop. The car also has a Standard steering wheel that resembles a 1968-later Baywindow Bus wheel but smaller in diameter.
If anyone is interested, I have an extra copy for $10!

That sure is a ragtop, but it sure doesn't look like a 67 standard model. It looks like a Deluxe based on the chrome trim. It has the old style headlights however, maybe it is a Euro Deluxe with a ragtop or a Deluxe someone put a ragtop in.

i do not know much about this car but i think the delux trim are repo items the link in the vzi thread gives you a bit more info its a factory fitted ragtop made for gurnsy (a small island off the uk) its the only 67 rag top i have seen in the uk
i hope the guy sorts it out as it has been in a accident

Murphy's Law: I have 11 issues of Volksworld from 1995. Guess which one I'm missing. #-o

I was also told that Austrailia produced a small number of RHD 67 standards with sliding sunroofs

Nectar_F Mon Mar 14, 2005 4:25 am

Australia had Deluxe bugs with ragtops till 1966, although Im sure that there were a few made in 67 with left over parts. All our bugs from Late 57-67 were small square back window cars.

N!

I just restored a standard 63 and made personal website about them. There is a pic of a golde sunroof standard known as a 1200A in the pics section and a good pic of a 67 1200 in the lit section. Also B.B.T. were restoring one recently. There's a couple of pop ups , sorry.

Sorry, I got so excited that people were discussing standards that I forgot to post the site! www.clik.to/jupitergrey
