YO what is up gentalmen. I am still in the plaing stages for my next baja and am now in the engin part. I am wondering what the best size engin would be. I am looking for some power of course but more importanly is toughness and duarabillty. I deffinally want to run dual 40's off a dual port head. I do know that heads are the big power makers but what size pistion is best. thanks for the suggerstions.

Depends on your budget. It's all about the dollar.

ft_irwin_73baja Fri Mar 11, 2005 4:19 pm

yep, go as big as you can afford. if you want to get really seriouse go with a subaru or turbo 2.3 ford engine.

Baja Ben Fri Mar 11, 2005 4:31 pm

i am really looking for just vw engins. for me about a 1000-1500 for the engine fits my budget. my thing is that i want to do it up right the frist time and spend the extra cash up front and save in the long run. I blew up three engins my frist time around and I want to avoid that this time.

go with 90.5 cima cylinders and pistons and a set of racing heads 041 and a mild cam and put a sand seal in the case before u do anything

NICE THAT IS WHAT I HAVE HEARD B4 BUT WASNT SURE OF THE SIZE. WHAT WOULD THE TOTAL CC BE WITH A 69MM STROK

suntour Fri Mar 11, 2005 5:44 pm

You have got to be KIDDDING ME!!!!!!! where in the hell did he get a blower like that. plus its on a manx buggy. air flow wouldnt be as good on a baja bug with the fire wall and all. But that is way friggen cool.!!!! I dont think i would need something that big. I am looking for more of a reliable engin that can still get up and go some of the time. thaks :D for the pic.

Nice motor. Looks great.

But there's no way i would run one on something I ran offroad.

Yes, they have fast power response, but they also have very high power drain, and extremely high heat production (which is something most people don't want in an offroad application), with very low boost potential.

The only real benefit of a blower application is they are 1/2 a step up on the reliability scale.

But, yeah, they DO LOOK cool as hell.

The age old question about "What motor is best?".....

Answer: What are you going to do with it? How hot will it be? How much are you going to drive it?

One of the most proven applications has always been the 1776. Best bang for the bucks you are willing to spend I think.

Your looking for the biggest engine you can run for $1500 and use dual 40mm carbs? Have you priced dual 40mm carbs?

Good point.

Hey Baja Ben

since 2332cc Blower did not meet your applications.

how about 1915cc motor with dual 40mm kadrons. :)

I drive this engine like I hate it but never let me down.
last weekend took it out for 600miles on & off road trip.

:)

I run a 2110 w/ dual 44IDFs in my baja, but since torque is king in a baja, here is the engine I want.

How much power does this engine produce roughly. I am coming out if a rotary and I am not familiar with the power these air cooled engines make. Also since I don't know could someone tell me the rough curb weight of an average buggy? When I hear 150hp from a built motor and it gets me scared thinking that this thing wont move out of it's own way. Do these engines make enough power for the car to not feel slow? What could a 1915cc do in a quarter mile, all things being equal?
I realize these are not the most well articulated questions but please bear with me. I am a VW newb.
TIA,
David

You might want to get a Mendeola tranny first. You'll probabaly have to get KEP to make a custom adapter, too. I don't think they have the ones for that engine in stock... :D

a 1915 could get around 120

fiberglass tub buggies are around the 1300lb area

there are some people that drive 1915's to 12 sec. 1/4 mile times in drag cars. dont forget that an RX7 is not a light car. these VW's are well under 2000lb and moved along with 60hp from the factory

i LIKE THE SECOND MOTOR ROY KOHROGI. AND YA YOU GUYS ARE RIGHT ABOUT THE DUAL 40'S. BUT I AM LOOKING STRICKLY AT THE VALVE COVER TO VALVEL COVER COAST. i KNOW THAT THE CARBS ARE GOING TO KILL ME ( IN THE BANK) BUT IT WILL BE WORTH IT IN THE LONG RUN. i HAVE FOUND THAT IF YOU PAY A LITTLE EXTRA NOW IT WILL SAVE YOU I THE LONG RUN. (I AM SURE YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.) WELL THIS HAS A BEEN A GREAT HELP GUYS. KEEP IT UP

this is a motor we built for our friend.

1,500.00 can cover the long block, assume using same case etc.

78.4mm Scat crank & 90.5mm pistons= 2017cc

works good with dual 40mm Kadrons.

sheetmetals received graphics from another baja friend.

check it out.

:D

I don't see any street VW with graphics on the sheetmetals
maybe this can make new Baja trend.
