it's just more than i know what to do with. i'm not in the know like most of you guys. i have one 64 baja. this 57 semaphore baja i started in on needs more than some noob with a vw book... i mean the rust is not TO bad. the pan is still together(thought it is rusty by battery tray). but the beast needs more love than i know how to give... the 12V wire setup is all teched out, i don't know where to begin... fully custom. aside from the fuse panel the wires go to other panels in front and rear. not fuse panels but the wires stop, bolt in and new wires go off to where they need to go. all sets of wires goin to the same places are all wrapped in a nylon type housing. why this is i do not know but it's not a normal setup. the tranny is a 60's NON split case swing. anyways i can not just take it to the junk yard. my grandpa would roll over in his grave. does anyone want to come take this sweet project off my hands? we can work out a fully respectable price. i live north of san francisco. i'd also love to hear any off handed comments or flames ;]. really i want some input from everyone here. you all have things to say. i'd really like to hear, good or bad. thx!

Don't puss out on it. You'll never learn anything like that. Just take it one thing at a time, and don't expect to be driving it next week. Break it down into manageable weekend projects, and over time it will come together. Figure out what needs to be done first, get on the Samba for advice on how to do it, and take your time.
Although I did tell my wife it would only take me two weeks to get mine running to get the dinero flowing., it ended up taking a year to get to drive it, but it turned out pretty well. But it NEVER ends. I just rebuilt the engine and went bigger with it and I still need disk brakes for the rear, etc. etc.

It's your car, and your life- what do YOU want to do?
If you really don't want to tackle it, if you are happy with the baja you have, then by all means, sell it to someone who wants to take it on.

However, if you want to take it on, read my post in the "motivate me" thread for my take on how to get past being overwhelmed by the job.

You know your skill level, and more importantly, your ambition level. be honest with yourself about yourself, and you'll have no regrets about the decision you make.

i might be up to take a project oval baja off your hands :D , unless you take their advice and man up to it. baby steps will get it done. one project one weekend, another the next...

ya man, come take a look at it... just take it away before i start to cry... i'd rather see it go to you anyways.
feel free to call me up and pick my brain.... 1-707-568-6985 anyone interested can call. i'm not out for cash. though this rig has plenty of value. it's tight really, it's just more than i can handle... the guy i bought it from got all kinds of brand new parts and never put it together. whole new brake setup, he said the new german wheel cylinders cost him $65 bucks each(i forget why he said they had to be old german ones). anyways new pads, backing plates, new lines.. all the stuff needed. it's just not together. new tie rod ends. a bunch of brand new do dad stuff. not to mention all the 57 stuff. it has the semifore turn signal switch but only the wires are in the slots. man it was such a great deal i could not say no... he said NO rust at all.... but now that i'm into it i see he was off. the rust is not THAT bad but it does have it round the tray(though no holes). the pan looks plenty strong still... also in the front wheel wells by your feet i see some rust now that i took the carpet out... no holes but any rust made me groan.... other than that the paint job was really thick and the body feels solid... but like i said come see it for yourself man. i just want it off my chest.... i'm only asking enough cash to not feel like shit. you tell me what you willing to give and that will prob. be fine, really.
