Its still there but the enviros have been trying to shut it down for years. I havent been up there for a while cuz they changed the rules and you cannot take in a baja bug unless it is green sticker or dual, street legal and green sticker only 4Xs. :(

Do you mean that you have to have a license plate and a green sticker?

I have recently lost interest but when I take if for a spin every so often I want to take it out in the dirt but I just dont have the motivation to work on it like I did 5 or so years ago. What could I do to motivate myself to get back into fixing it up and taking it out?

Make like nike- just do it.

The biggest motivation killer is seeing the big job you have ahead of you, like re-wiring a car, and telling yourself "i don't have the time/money/skill to do THAT, i'll get around to it when i have the time/moey/skill"
Guess what? it never happens. Time, money and skill never nagically appear- you have to MAKE it happen.

Quit looking at the forest, and concentrate on one tree at a time.

You may not have a ton of time to spend on your car, but i KNOW that you can find an hour a day. That's all you need. just one hour.

Start today. Make time, just one hour, TODAY, and go out to the garage and get back in touch with your car. Grab a pad and a pen and make a DETAILED list of ALL of the jobs you need to do. Don't make a list of the forest ( rewire car), but make a list of each tree you have to cut down (1. run new wires from front left headlight. 2. run wires from front right headlight. etc.) You're gonna end up with a long list- that's good. You want to know EXACTLY what you have to do.

Tomorrow, cut down just one tree, or two trees, or whatever you can get done in only one hour, and cross it off your list. The next day, spend another hour, chopping down more trees. keep going.

By the end of a week, you have put in seven hours on your car- when was the last time you put in seven hours of labour on your car in a week?
and you didn't have to use up a weekend to make it happen, pissing off the wife and kids and neglecting all the stuff on the "honey-do' list. A funny thing happens when your wife sees you actually working on your car every day- she starts cutting you some slack. Instead of bitching about when that heap is gonna be out of the garage, she sees that you're actually doing something while she is watching "desperate housewives," she sees some progress, sees that you are happy, and next thing you know, there's a lot less bitching.

Do you know why most drug detox programs are 28 days long? because studies have shown that it takes 28 days of constant reinforcement to create a habit, either good or bad. So, spend an hour a day for 28 days working on your car, and you're less likely to get de-motivated in the future- you've created the habit.

Just an hour a day. pretty soon, you're back on the road again.

I was told by one of the rangers at the entrance that I either have to have it registered as off road only (green sticker) or get dual registration. (regular registration and a green sticker) I dont quite understand how that is possible but he said it is, but you have to take your vehicle into the CHP to have it checked out and thats even if its currently registered and legal to drive on the street. None of it made much sense but were dealing with the government so I expect that.
Yea bljones, I hardly have any time, Probably cuz i have to many hobbies and work so Its really hard to find time for the baja or take it out for that matter.
This past weekend I removed my Tranny and Engine skid plates I made to protect them and changed my oil, I guess that a start, LOL. Actually I have new german CV boots I am going to put on, possibly this weekend and I am going to get a front disk kit maybe next month. :D

I think the duel registration the ranger was talking about, would be a special construction blue tag, like on a street buggy. They had lots trouble with punks bringing in heaps, and then leaving them there. Thats probibly why they changed the rules, 4X4 ok licence plate, 2WD green sticker. last time I was there they made you park out side and ride in, we use to be able to camp there. Saw the lake on the news the other day, looked messy.

if you start doing alot of coke you should develop a strong need to keep your hands busy. your finances may dwindle though.

seriously, i think its hard to keep motivated. like stated earlier. JUST DO IT!
