I would like to put a bus tranny in my baja. The two kits I know of our the solid mount which puts hockey stick above tunnel, and the other which puts it in tunnel. With each of these kits how much of the body do I got to cut out to fit in tranny, and does it hang down far in the front with the second kit I mentioned. Thnaks for any input.

I did not use a kit for my bus install, I made my own brackets, BUT...I made them so the trans sits at an angle so the shifter could remain in it's stock location. the only trimming I needed to do was just a little around where the coupler is and that was because the shift rod rubbed on the top just a bit, not even enough to bother a sane person though.

I also am interested in more information on this swap. If anyone has any direct experience with an install kit that requires the little fabrication "Chop" work possible, please speak up. Thanks.

Hank, here is a page that shows how much cutting he had to do to install a three rib with the mounts that do not set the trans at an angle.

As you can see, it's not too bad.

I almost forgot, try not to read the site from beginning to end. It will just make you want to spend money. I was (and still am) a victim of this guy and his and his Baja. Don't let it happen to you.

Gene Berg makes an adapter nose cone to put a bus box in a bug and use the shift rod inside the tunnel with no cutting. He also makes rubber mounted tranny mounts.

I have seen the Berg nose cone. Pretty cool idea really. Like most Berg items, here is what you need to do. Order the part, file bankruptcy, wait for that to blow over, install part.
