A high lift jack can replace a come along- just carry a couple of spare pulleys and a snatch block, along with your cable. easier to pack. |

i heard of a old school fix for getting stuck in a really loose sandy wash.
you need two pieces of decently thick plywood half again as wide as your tires and bout five foot long. a length of rope maybe 8 foot long will be tied into a hole at one end of the board, one rope per board.
the general idea is that you are bee bopping down a nice sandy wash and you hit a section soo loose that you dig in and bury the rear wheels.
so you jump out and jack up both rear tires and push dirt back into the holes you dug with the rear tires and unstrap your handy dandy board thingy majiggy and slip it under the rear tires then tie off the rope to your bumper and let the car down on the board. now you have a kind of launch pad to get you going, if you dont get wild and shoot the thing out from under your wheels you will be able to get going again and hopefully use the momentum you just gained to get to more solid ground. the boards will be dragged along behind you so dont stop till you make it to solid ground then reel them back in and strap them down again.
if you dont make it to solid ground then repeat the above untill you "leap frog" to solid ground and ride on into the sunset.
this is mostly for the weekend worrior who may have a roof rack or something like that to carry the boards.
so anyway there you go, hopefully it will help someone out there. |

Now that's a slick idea. They would fit behind the back seat of the thing and help with the radiated heat as well. |
