1. pack a shovel
2.check your gasoline
today i went for a short ride and i got high centered in a washed out area by one of our ponds. the washes were the same as the wheelbase of my '65 so i got high centered. i left the motor running and i got my shovel out and started digging. did i mention digging? after about 45 minutes i had everything out of the way and i was soon out. i drove to the far side of the farm to hit some back trails and scare the cattle. the car started stumbling and dying but i made it back to my truck and coasted to a stop. heck, even the fuel filter was completly dry!! |

| I keep a shovel and extra gas with me all the time. Damn I wish I had riding areas like that around me, I would be out everyday. :D |

The third rule is to never wander off further from your campsite/tow rig/civilization than you want to walk back. :)
The fourth one might be never go alone.
Never know when something tragic might happen and the authorities have to spot your corpse by the circling buzzards. |

My two rules would be:
Take water with you.
Take a high lift jack.
But I must admit it would be nice to have gasoline in the tank. |

The fourth rule is for when one ignores the third rule. :) |

| When a vehicle rolls your weight is pulling on the seatbelt and it won't unbuckle, this kind of sucks since there is a greater risk of fire. I always kept a serrated blade knife in my 4X4, they tend to cut seatbelt webbing considerably faster than standard knives. Gerber sells the Gator Serrator for around $30.USD and it's quite nice, I really like mine for a low priced knife. A come-along is another item I still carry today, I paid about $20.USD for my last one, and I can move just about anything with enough patience and rigging. Imp558 |

I'll add 5 if no one minds.
Keep a fully charge cell phone ready, a whistle handy, and matches
along with plenty of water. I used to go out alone all the time.
Sometimes miles out.
My old Drill Sgt used to tell us :
"If not prepared to survive, prepare to die."
I rememberd that every time went I went out in Cali deserts
puttin' around. Paid off more than once. |
