  View original topic: my interior/dome light doesn't work! help!

hi,
my interior light, the one above the driver's seat to the left doesn't work in my 81 westie. i changed the bulb. still no light. the PO said that it worked before. maybe a fuse? does anyone have a diagram of the fuse box with a description as to which fuses are for what? also which position is which on the interior light switch. forward? middle? back? thanks, connie.

First verify that you are getting 12V to the light when the door is open and that the ground is good.

If that is all hunky-dory, and you have replaced the bulb, look at the contacts in the light assembly itself. Sometimes they get corroded or bent and don't properly make contact.

:D try wiggling the door switch...... if the light flashes then you need to clean the switch..... :twisted:

Connie, you should at least get a haynes manual. It has a complete wiring diagram, and the fuse list. You should be able to look at them and tell pretty quickly if one is bad. But the fuse that protects the interior light also runs some other things. So that's always a good check on if its a fuse.

Do what they said above first. The switch for the light is up...on when door open, middle...off always, down... on always.
