Mountain Rescue Squad BD.

Look at the welded outer sill ... !

The white number plates were firstly introduced in 1955 and the transition period for black old ones ended on 1st of July, 1958.

Totally cool with people sharing my photos around. I wouldn't be posting them on here or on flickr if I wasn't. But if you are going to copy them can you use links that take anyone interested back to my source? There is all the info I know about the photos there, like time and place.

Not a dig at you at all drscope, because I've done exactly the same as well before. Copied photos I liked then totally forgotten where they came from.

Just a polite call to share the info as well as the photo, where possible. Thank you :o Keep the photos coming 8)

Thats a Swedish bus! I can tell by the old "Blå Mocca" coffe can on the left and the old engine heater intake plug on the right.

I believe Owen Warlow had that bus for sale back in the late 1990's for $6000. I almost bought it, but just couldnt justify $6K plus another $800 for shipping to Miami. I have tons of hard copy pictures of it, its a cool bus.

2001

can you scan any of those old pics in, Drew?

I just spent a bit of time looking for the pics, I believe that they are my storage garage, which i wont be visiting for a couple of weeks. However, I did dig up some cool stuff while searching. The old days of handwritten letters were quite magnificent, and not that long ago. Lots of old parts leads, wonder how many of the numbers still work?

There was an ad from jan 23, 2000 on the samba for a 54 firetruck with 26K miles for $2200. Its was being sold by Curt Strausser out of PA. I have no memory of the truck or why I printed it.

I found another set of photos of a restoration process of a brown and brown painted bus. The letter and photos were sent by a fellow named Marc from a company called "Splits in Pieces" out of East Sussex. It had a camper interior...BUT, it had the fat early gas pedal, upwards facing exterior mirror, and the rear sliding partition. If anyone knows the owner of this bus, I will forward the pics.

I also found a ton of pics of Rick Clarks 54 rhd DD panel bus being restored. I will gladly pass those on to him at the next OCTO.

I found all of the importation documents and original owner correspondence when I imported Troy Wheelers 52 standard. It came out of Herrsching, Germany. I have never been able able to remember what website it was on, but i guess i printed the ad, it was from www.type2.com dated 2/27/98. The ad read "selling a window bus from 1952 with original brown interior, two back benches. price: $2700 US" Then I waited for him to mail me pics, as I guess you couldnt upload pics to that site, or maybe he didnt know how? Anyway, troy will be psyched, as i will pass this stuff on to him.

So, although I didnt find the pics I was looking for, it was fun to dig through it anyway, and I found some stuff that others will be happy to get. I will get the other box next time I am at the storage garage. I think the 52 dlx pics are there. Ill post them when I get to them, although they arent vintage like the thread topic suggest, at least not yet.... :D

The Splits in Pieces '51 is now in Wolfsburg in the Museum, still looking as good as when it was first restored, excellent bus. The '52 deluxe above is still around too. 8)

Looks like he opened the sunroof from the driver's seat and pushed it back as far as he could from that position too.

Looks like this answers your question...

The way this looks as if the bus was leaving factory in route for shipment...so the roof painted white was a factory feature.
