Nice buy.
Sorry no pics, mine is red.
All you really need is to get rid of the stock wheels and lower it. Just my two cents. |

Sure its a '66? If so you got a '67 rear decklid, and probably an apron to match. Its obvious some hokey pokey has gone on, what with the headlights and all. If it were a Euro it woud have those lights but no overrider holes.
I also vote for lowered on BRMs. |

Yeah, im new to bugs, so i have no idea. Does the deck lid look stupid on it and how can you tell the headlights are different? I put some more photos so if you notice anything else wierd, let me know.
Thanks |

5.5" stock-style chromies with old style hubcaps, adjustable front beam and some big ass tires - 185/65f and 215/65r. rears are almost a little too big, would probably look better with 205's. changes the entire apperance of the car with very little work.
the reason your car is confused is because if you look at your style decklid (the cover over the engine) it squares off at the bottom at that angle, which is unique to the year 1967. earlier style had a pointed end, and later style was raised even more. the headlights are pre-67 though, and are called fluted. instead of the fender going inward to allow for the light to rest perpendicular to the ground, the lens itself went along with the fender whereas the inside part was vertical.
also unique to '67 was the thin chrome trim around the body, which your car has. I think, though, that is possible to change that with little to no trouble. I saw another bug today with the exact problem, reversed. he had '67 up lights, fat trim but a pointed decklid. I'll post a picture when I get them uploaded.
one MORE thing that makes it for sure a '67 is the fact of your door panels. you've got the newer style cranks along with the more modern door handles, so it's for sure a '67 unless someone tried really hard to convert it. old vw's get mis-titled a lot, and possibly the PO liked fluted lenses more.
also, you've got a dual port motor that looks pretty new (or the tin got painted at the very least) so it's got a decent engine along with a clean body, so it's a good buy if you got it for a decent price. |

thanks for pointing those things out to me. This bug is pretty much a 67' besides someone putting 66' fluted lights on it? I paid $3100.00 is that a fair price? I just want to drive it and maintain it, not really spend countless hours in the garage, i've been there with motorcycles and i can't imagine doing it to an entire car, kudos to all that completely redo there bugs, thats awesome.
Guess i just need to powder coat the rims white and put some coker 2.75 white walls on it. I hope that cleans it up. I may get those cool bumpers like you guys got, but i don't know where to look. Haven't found any on this site yet. How do i find out what years parts are compatible with my bug body and engine wise? I obviously have a lot to learn. |

I like it except for that "doggie-print" on the right rear fender... WTF?

Pigalle red interior with pigalle red wheels would be a great upgrade.
But then, I'm a Type 3 guy. Why wouldn't it look just as cool in a Beetle? |

| Maybe it isn't 100% correct but it looks really nice and should be a lot of fun to drive around. Enjoy! |
