I am restoring my 1969 Fastback Auto back to original condition. My question is this:

Would you rebuild the stock 1600 DP for originality, or put a new engine in like a 1776 or 1915?

I can't decide...This will be my daily driver, maybe 100 miles every day or two.

How can you "restore it back to original" with anything BUT the stock 1600 with fuel injection? :?
I think the question is if you should restore it, or modify it.

Yes...I am partial to restore the 1600. Since it is going to be driven every day, I was just curious what would hold up the best with the least maintenance.

My 1641 has over 110,000 miles on it.

1776 in my buddys Notch has 70,000+ (normal service intervals)

Stay away from the 1915 for daily use, just my opinion.

Both motors built by Matt over at SonikWagens

If it's not 1600 it's not original condition. There are no other choices so I didn't answer your poll.

If your question was, "Should I run a larger engine with the stock fuel injection" or something like that the poll would be valid.

Lots of people use the stock Djet on engines up to 1776 reliably. That should give you more than enough power for a daily driver. A friend has this setup and he can bury the needle in the speedo easily.

Go larger and you will probably have trouble. The stock intake will be insufficient to feed it anyway.

Just make sure the engine is well built and uses a mild cam. A hot cam will kill your vaccum reading and Djet won't work. Boost your fuel pressure a couple of psi until you get a good fuel mixture.

2007 (edit-Minimum!), or nothing

Personally, if you're not a purist (I'm not) a 1776 is the way to go. More power for freeway driving which makes the car safer IMHO. Nothing like trying to merge in front of an 18 wheeler and you go no more pedal. With 90.5s you will not have issues associated with overheating and you should still be able to use the stock FI. Balancing the entire engine will also make it run smoother and should increase HP a little.

I would have voted for 2110cc if that was an option.

2110cc's  that's exactly what's going in the new '65 Notch. Can't wait.

Go big or go home. 2276.

I *was* going to vote for the larger motor, but "When restoring my fasty back to original..." you really only have one choice. ;)
