4 lug? do you have an irs pan under that beast?

stault Sun May 01, 2005 6:55 pm

No, swingaxle, bug was converted 15 years ago and it's my daily driver here in Pennsylvania, Cold winters and all!!

RoachGhia Sun May 01, 2005 8:16 pm

hell yeah, that's hardcore. much respect. and a cool car, by the way.

about the 4 lug, right now you're having to roll late model wheels yet still having to put up with a swingaxle?!?! you're getting the shit ends of both deals. why not convert back? or weld irs brackets to the framehorns and step up to irs? it'll make that snow drifting much more predictable...

I've been driving beetles since the mid 80's, and here in the east alot of the cars had metal issues and my 74 at that time had a frame head rotted away and I looked for months trying to find something without cancer, back then their wasn't a place called Samba, this has realy been a blessing to the hobby. I found this 67 in a want ads book and the car was located around Washington, DC, it came from California and had 340,000 miles on it and about 4 coats of paint but the body and pan were in great shape!!! Sooooo at that time I worked with several people who were street rodders and it gave me an itch to make it the way that pleased me, I went with the 8 spoke wheels, Recaro seats, oval insert, front and rear sway bars, VDO guages ect. I new at that time the car was going to stay with me as long as I was alive an well and that was 15 years ago and I can't count the times people asked me if I wanted to sell it. The wife who's been with me for 34 years," you can see I don't like to get rid of things" and I want to take a ride we let the Mustang parked and take the Bug, theirs just something about feelin the road under ya, and the rims in the other picture are my winter kicks.

it's only now that i noticed the door handles...

lots of work in that bug, and it looks great. one of the few bugs i've seen that look good with 8 spokes. keep it up, it must be rare to see them on the road up there.

Where in Pennsylvania? Good looking car.

I live in the York area, the last picture was taken in 98 when the car was finished after a year & a half of work, a good friend of mine his name is Dana did all of the mods and paint work, because the car is driven daily it's in need of some freshening up , I'm working on a 58 cloth sunroof that should be finished next spring and the the 67 will get a much needed make over. These are some snaps of the interior, the back shows a view of a custom speaker cab I designed for the bug, it's a horn loaded vented inclosure with 6x9 Alpines. I did pro sound for about 20 years and worked on speaker cabinet development and used some of the parameters for the box.

cool looking car. Wheres the river and what class is it?

stault Wed May 04, 2005 10:12 am

Muddy creek, and it's a class 3+ when the rainy season hits. This is my first season ww kayaking, I have a rec yak that I did for about 4 years and deceided to add some edge to my life, took a trip down to a yak shop near the Muddy called Stark Moon kayak shop, talked to the owner Brad and he said "living around here without a ww yak is like living at the shore without a bathing suit" so I went for it, and unlike the other ones going out for a day on the water with their pickups and vans I get to enjoy my Bug and a skut down the crek !!

PS. The boat is a Prijon Kaituna and it's made in Germany, what a fitting pair

I started out using a Perception Dancer....its a touring boat by todays standards. I got rid of my Wave Sport Big EZ about a year and a half ago. Currently no boats and I haven't been in whitewater in about 2 years. I will likely pick it up again sometime....but for now I;m finding flatwater a little more interesting.
