I now own a set aof 31 tall by 12 inch wide rear tires for my soon to be baja bug. I think this may have been discussed but what exactly do i need to do to fit them and will it kill the trans quick???
Thanks for the info, i have a 77 bug that will soon be converted to baja. Also it's not too late for me to resell these if that is too big, but i think it should work. |

| Ive got a 70 with 30s on it and they are only about 3/4 of an inch away from the rear torsion bar housing. You might want to have a look at that. I dont know about the width though. They wont kill the tranny right away, you just wont be able to go up hills very easily and have very little power. I had a stock tranny, 1600 and 30s on the rear and it was a pain accelerating. I went ahead and had my ring and pinion switched out and close 3rd and 4th gears installed also they will give the clutch a work out. |

| Shit that doesnt sound too good to me. Might be better off getting some 29's. |

they will probably be too tall unless you run a body lift or wider arms
they will probably be too wide unless you run wider arms or a highly offset wheel |

| Well damn probably would have been a good idea to post before i bought them. Running a big offset for the tires will be even harder on the transmission wont it? |

the offset will be harder on the suspension components. the diameter and weight of the tire is what is hard on the transmission |

alright tires actually measured and they are 29 1/2 inches tall, which works out well. actual measurement for them is 325/60/r15.
325 is pretty wide im thinking it will still need an offset to work. That will obviously be a lot cheaper than arms unless there are longer trailing arms that are around 100-150 for a pair that i dont know about. |

| most 31 x 10.50 tires are actually about 29.5" tall with 9" of tread width. the numbers always seem to be a bit over estimated, especially when you compress the tire with the weight of a vehicle |
