I want to box in my stock trailing arms to make them a little tougher, but I want to run shocks off of the stock upper mount. Is this possible or would I have to mount them into the cab area off of the roll cage? I plan to use heavy duty, standard size shocks. Thanks......Gary

You probably know this, but to box your trailing arms you have to cut off your stock shock mount. Then the mount moves to the top of the arm for greater travel I don't see why you couldn't fabricate a new mount off of the boxed arms in a similar location to the stock mount, but then you still have that big mount hanging below the arm to get hung up on rocks and stuff. Alternatively, you could do the above arm mount and move your stock mount higher in the wheel well. Here is a link with photos of a project where this was done: www.airsouls.com in the "how to" section.

Thanks for the info. How strong of a mounting point is that for a shock? Does seem like it would hold. I wounder if it would be possible to extend the upper mounting point? I would someday like to run the shocks off of the roll cage inside the car but a roll cage is down the road a bit. Thanks for all your help though

I don't think that mounting point would be very strong. It is a temporary solution to get you on the road with some suspension. Heavy off road use would probably crack the inner fenderwell or the mount. You might also be able to fab an interior shock mount, without doing a full cage.

Yeah thats not a bad idea. I could probably just weld in a bar on the inside to mount the shock to. I'll look into it. Thanks for the help!
