I have a 10 in. SuperTrapp style muffler on a Tri-Mill exahaust and it is too loud to drive on the street. Would I see much of a difference if I went with one of the 18 in. models or a Camco/S&S/Empi style canister (w/sparky)? If so which would be better (ie. quieter)?
Thanks, |

| I dont think you will see, err... hear much difference. I have the camco and it does quit down a bit but its just at 92db. If i put the spark arrestor on it is a little quiter but I can feel a loss of power. |

Do you run yours on the street? I just don't want to get a ticket for being too loud. You can't be too careful in the Peoples Republic of Califonia. |

| I have the Tri mill exhaust with the muffler. it sounds pretty good, quiet while at idle and cruising but pipes up when i stand on it. It is ceremic coated and looks good too. theres a pic in my gallery. Also seems to flow pretty well, no power complaints.just a thought. |

I also run the ceramic coated tril mil with the quiet pack muffler. It is pretty quiet, but has a nice tone to it. basically its just a small turbo muffler.

From the pictures (thanks!) it looks like the Tri-Mill Muffler would hit my shock mounted double-tube rear bumper. My Tri-Mill is also Ceramic Coated. I wonder if I could clamp a small 2" Turbo muffler onto my existing u-bend pipe and paint it with some high temp silver/aluminum exhaust paint. Too cheesy?

You wont get quiet unless you run an actual muffler. They make an off-road 'quiet pack' muffler wher the muffler is directly behing the header, instead of off to the side like the Tri-Mill. It's not as good quality, though.
If you just want to avoid The Man, let off the gas when you spot him. If you want it quiet for yourself, get something with a muffler. Most muffler shops should be able to fab something to fit your car. |

I went and purchased the canister muffler from EMPI. The quality seems pretty good and it was priced the same as the SuperTrapp sparky. The quality of the sound is better as it sounds less raspy and raw and is quite a bit quieter than the short 10" arrester I was running. the engine also seems to be breathing a bit better.. I will be taking Zarana-X's advice and will just back off if I see the police.
Thanks. |
